What Happened When I Fell Off of the Active Rain Wagon! And Now That I've Climbed Back ON???

When I fell off the Active Rain wagon awhile back, I noticed some interesting side effects:

First, my ideas dried up....yep, hard to believe.  Unless I'm posting regularly, my brain takes a vacation from Blogging Blockthinking about what to share.  BUT if I am communicating consistently, more and more ideas flood into my brain/fingers. AND no one - or very few - would be reading or commenting on my past posts.

Second, I am a fan of and subscribe to and pay annually for The Blog Log which helps me know what people are looking for and finding on my posts. Of particular interest to me, I am able to view the statistics when searchers land on my post, and then how many actually click on any of the links in my post. Cool, huh? I've provided a link which leads to mine, but since this became featured, I thought I'd make it easier to see what I mean by clicking on the link above.

Now that I’m back posting and commenting regularly, I’ve become more visible, and posts from a year or more ago are being found. I like to know that. It helps me figure out what to write….after all, isn’t the reason we’re blogging is for business?

It's kinda like when your mom forced you to take piano lessons as a kid. Practice for 1/2 hour a day and you see progress and it seems easier.  If you don't play for a while, it feels like you never took lessons.

Teri - You've just answered a question that I posted as a comment on someone elses blog today. Being newish, my problem has been "what to say". I'm assuming that the more I do this, like piano, the better I should get, and the blog ideas will come? Happy New Year, and welcome back.

Now I HAVE to comment because you saw me on your Bloglog "Recent Visitors" list. LOL.

All kidding aside...I remember when you took a VACATION from AR. I always figure when people do this, that they are going through something in their life that they're struggling with and just can't muster the "feelings" to network. I've been there. Done that. But I was sure glad when I saw you BACK ON THE WAGON!!!

Happy New Year.

Welcome back.  You just have to put AR in perspective and remember that it is just one of the tools we use to help us keep up with our industry and brings us prospects.  Have a happy 2009.

Teri - I, too have found that my performance is better when I'm regular on AR vs. being away.  I came back a couple of days ago because I got a Flip for Christmas and I remembered your post when you tried yours out for the first time.  Thank you for introducing me to something I might not have known about otherwise.  Have a great 2009!

Ellie, thanks for the welcome. I've been fairly diligent for a month or so....;-) That's how I've noticed the difference. ;-)

Melina, what a wonderful comparison.....I remember those days. ;-)

Rick, just hang in and keep pushing forward...;-)

Connie, just like watching for a good photo to take, I now keep my mind open to new or interesting ideas and thoughts to share. ;-)

Teri... thanks for the nice post. I love blog log also. I especially appreciate your comment about 'ideas drying up'... I've been asked several times in the past about giving ideas away. It's my belief that's were most of them come from (from giving them away). The brain is a muscle. The more you crank out ideas and share them, the more ideas and creativity come to the surface. Have a great 2009!
