Phoenix gearing up to celebrate its biggest event of the year! The Opening of the METRO light rail!

Be sure and join up with other Phoenicians when we take advantage of the Phoenix free METRO train rides between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. ON Saturday, December 27, 2008!!! Take a ride along the 20-mile route between Phoenix and Mesa and a series of parties at rail stations! The METRO will offer free rides between 10-6 on Sunday, December 28 AND free through Wednesday, December 31. HOW COOL IS THAT?  Beginning January 1, fares are lightrail$1.25 one way and $2.50 for all day, the same as regular bus fares.

I've watched for what seems eons for this light rail to be built, and now it's ready to go. Just a few days away before the long-awaited opening.

For more information on its routes, and for a map, click on phoenix light rail.

How many of you want to join me? Let's all ride together!!!

Here's a map so you all can check it out:

Teri, I haven't visited your blog for awhile.  The Metro train sounds interesting.  I'm not sure where Christown Mall is.  Must be a new one -- I know I went to every mall in the Phoenix/Maricopa County area when I lived there!  :)   I'm very proud of that.  :)   Didn't see a map on the site -- but going back to look again so I can get a better idea of the route.

Teri,
How exciting!  So convenient and affordable and what a great thing for those who can't/don't drive!

Teri that is good news you are getting such cheap transportation! I wish we had something similar here.

Teri

I make a stop over about three times a year at Sky Harbor. I believe I will take sometime like I did last time and try the new rail.

Happy Holidays to you!

Teri--Sounds new and exciting for Phoenix mass transit! Mpls lightrail has been up and running and is expanding. Lots of debate as to whether it is worth the cost but those who ride, love it.

Judi, I posted a map....I searched around and found one for ya. ;-) Christown - I believe - is at 19th Avenue and Bethany Home or thereabouts. It's an OLD mall...... There's lots of new malls for you to check out now. ;-)

Cynthia, it is exciting....and I can't wait to try it out. We have lots of cars, so this will help with traffic and pollution. ;-)

Bill, it is cheap. Going from Mesa to downtown is very reasonable. ;-)

Tom, check out the map, and then visit...... thanks for the holiday wishes. ;-)

Teri, It is sooooo worth the cost for sooo many reasons. It'll be nice to have it up and running. Hopefully there are other plans for further into Mesa...;-)

Teri,  thanks for posting the map -- I did find one on the site last night when I went back.  If Christown is an OLD mall - I've probably been there.  :)   New malls -- yeah, I need to get back to Phoenix/Maricopa County for a visit.  :)

Judi, you're welcome. Yep, one of the old ones and not in a great part of town now. San Antonio isn't THAT far away...but I'll bet you do have your own shopping malls. ;-)

This sounds exciting. Austin has been talking about light rail for a few years now, but the Austin residents keep voting it down because of the noise.
