Scottsdale, Arizona Police Department Twittering or is it Tweeting? A Wave of the Future?

I thought this was really cool. For those of you who don't tweet yet, or even for those of you who do - what a great idea to be a follower of the police department in your area. Apparently the city of Scottsdale and the Twitterfire department have decided to tweet as well. The idea is that putting out short bursts of information over cell phones, online alerts, instant messaging services as well as Twitter site can be very useful in an emergency.

Anyone can view the Scottsdale Police Department's updates on its Twitter profile. Follow the Scottsdale Fire Department and the Scottsdale City News!

An example was cited in the news article that I read, that Twitter would be "perfect to fill a need illustrated by last year's shootings at Virginia Tech by sending alerts directly to people's cell phones."

I, for one, "follow" several newspaper tweets as well. I don't have them come to my phone or I'd be innundated, but this unique look at tweeting might just be a wave of the future. ;-)

So, stop by and join the Twitter group and find out what it's all about. ;-)

Hi Teri,

Interesting. I've been reading s much about twitter, yet haven't gone there. I can't imagine spending any more time that I am already on line.

Wow Teri talk about a police department that is out in front of the trends. I didn't think there were that many people that  knew about twitter other than us Realtors and techie geeks. I guess it is catching on much quicker!

Teri, I think that is an awesome progressive idea by the city!  Maybe others will take note!  BTW, you might want to edit this and include it in Addicted to Active Rain.  One other quick question, is my music a GOOD make you jump or BAD make you jump?    :-)

Teri: Gotta say, your police department is  sure keeping up with the times. CA must be way behind.

That's a terrific idea. Of course, I have no time to tweet or twit. :(

Hey, if you want to read interesting police reports, I suggest you try the Arcata Police Log.

Here is a sample:

>>Hootie's all-controlling $20 charisma – August 5, 2008
• Sunday, July 13 1:46 a.m. A man and woman argued at near-nuclear levels in a Valley West parking lot, the better to understand each others’ points of view. He, a stupid bastard, had been drinking, while she, a damn bitch, was in a more advanced state of intoxication. The actual crux of the argument was a personal matter, thank you, and police saw them off to separate budget motels for the duration of the alcohol.

Lynda, I don't spend a lot of time tweeting either...but this is definitely something to consider. ;-)

Bill, I think we're really a "with it" state. ;-) More and more will get the "hang" of it eventually. This is just a great use for it.

Ronald, I do too. I was amazed, and thought it was a great idea. ;-) My opinion on your music: I had my speakers up, so it startled me....typically, I would rather have it quiet. ;-)

Kat, Arizona has always been a state that moves along quickly. Since we're smaller than many areas, our area has been used for test marketing different foods, etc. I do think, however, that this is an innovative idea by some of the younguns int he Police Department. ;-)

Elizabeth, reading or following tweets is my preference. I don't post on a frequent basis. I'll have to check out that link.....but I"ll have to wait until after I save this, don't wanna lose all my profound words of wisdom. ;-)

Hi-Teri-I'll have to check Twitter out. All this new technology. How does one keep up and still find time to sleep.  Good chatting with you. Take care and talk to you again soon

When the recent eathquake happened in the Bay Area, it was all over Twitter before it hit the media. It's great to see the police using this. Twitter can really help get the word out quickly, as well as helping the department build more of a community presence online.

Let's hope they aren't doing this while driving like so many others or they maybe saving themselves.

Pat, yes, lots of technology, and it's a constant battle to keep up. ;-)

John, that's pretty amazing isn't it....

Ronald, I'll let you know. ;-)

Todd, hopefully not Todd....can't imagine trying to twitter on my phone while I'm driving....;-)

Actually, I turned the music off.  Still there, but no longer auto-starts.

Ronald, I think that's a good idea. It's a bit distracting when the music comes on. ;-)
