It Looks Like Google Has Some Good Competition!!! Check Out These Search Engines!

I was listening to the news the other day when something was mentioned about a new search engine. I've wanted to share the news 'cause after checking it out......especially Cuil.com, I was fascinated. My daughter had told me about another one, SearchMe.com so I checked that one out as well.  Since I am using Firefox, one of the options at the top of the search page is which search engine to use. I'll cut and paste the "look," here for all to see. What else would I search for...., but - you got it, Teri Ellis, Realtor. See what turned up - 488 results! I can only show you a snippet, but you get the idea. Let me know what you think!

Culi search

SearchMe.com results - a photo of my newly designed website!

SearchMe results

One of the things that is interesting to me on Cuil.com is the idea that it picks up comments made by me as well as others, and all sorts of information from my stand-alone blog, my websites, obviously posts on Active Rain, and more.

SearchMe is like a book...it opens pages which are kinda cool. Very graphically appealing.

WARNING, be SURE to spell CUIL.com right....; otherwise, an adult site pops up. Oops....

Search me was fabulous. It reminds me a lot of google picasa! You can not only see the links but the content too. PLEASE VERIFY THE OTHER SITE. IT HAD ADULT CONTENT.

Tracy, oops....it's spelled "cuil" - thank you sooooo much for letting me know. I'll bet they did that on purpose don't you think? ;-)

TERI, I loved the way search me opened up but it didn't pull my newest website.

search me was interesting as was cuil.com.  I didn't find search me as thorough as the other one.

Thanks, Teri. I'll check them out. The print on these comments is small - it looked like c-u-l-l but because of Tracy's comment I put on my reading glasses and saw that it is c-u-i-l.

Very "cool", Teri :)  I liked the cuil site much better since their results seem to be more extensive than searchme.  I wonder how long it will be before we are worried about cuil juice?  LOL!

Posted by Lisa Heindel, New Orleans Real Estate Broker (Crescent City Living LLC) over 11 years ago

Marchel, did you try cuil? It is awesome....I wonder if it's prounced cu-il like co-ol cool....get it? ;-)

Melina, I like cuil better as well...but searchme is pretty cool too.;-)

Sharon, is the print small? Yep, be sure to spell it right. If you click on the link in the beginning portion of my post, it's right...I fixed it. ;-)

Lisa, you liked that huh? It is cool, huh? I like it alot...;-)

Hi Teri, it's great to see some serious search contenders coming up as well as the nice way they present the info/results. Nite!

Teri, I like the differences. I checked out cuil last week and it got better as the week went on. You never know which site folks will use to find you on. I also had a beta invite to test searchme. But, also hadn't played with it for a couple of months. Thanks I'm going to go check both these out.

Teri--I had heard about Cuil and was going to post about it because some of the searches that rank high for google yield different results here. I hadn't heard about searchme yet. Thanks for the link!

Hi Teri,  I had heard of Cuil but not search me.  I like that site alot.  It's so cool, sometimes I just get so tired of Google.  Especially since it'll be years before I reach page one, (if ever)

Thanks

Seach me is great but look at what both are doing -- trying to make it easy for the user to search and read in a magazine format.  I liked searchme but their results was poor for now -- I am sure they will get better

I really liked the format, but the search engine wasn't very good at finding things. Looks pretty but doesn't do the job......hummm, isn't that a Paris Hilton attribute?

Sandy, my signature comes from www.mylivesignature.com. I design my own and then cut and paste. The layouts are different, but who knows? For some that are searching online, it gives a lot of information in a paragraph that can be seen without clicking on a link. ;-)

I am all over google but nowhere to be found on either of these search engines. Google Power!!!!!

Hey Teri, glad you found some alternatives to search engines.  You know I was a beta tester for Searchme about a couple months ago.  I definitely liked the Visual Search Engine effect and was amazed on how much private funding they got so quick.  I feel though Searchme is still lightyears behind Google and other top search engines as far as function and formula goes but investors think that searchme will be picked up by either Google Or Msn for the platform.

Cuil.com or Cool as they pronounce it has caught my eye as well.  The original Google Brains created this new search engine and is claiming to have more indexed pages than Google (Researchers found this false recently) now I like the concept of Ex-Google employees wanting to make another search engine but as of right now they still fail to deliver indexed results, speed and proper formulas, who knows maybe in the future they might but I am definitely keeping my eye on these two.

Hey Justin, good to see you. Thanks for sharing and I would keep my eye on them as well. Definitely consumer friendly in my mind. ;-)

Terri, could you please tell me the name of the adult website that popped up? For informational purposes of course...

Just kidding! I checked out Searchme.com and it is way too cool! The only problem is, it shows a main page of a website I used to have several months ago, but of you click on it, my new site pops up! I was trying to get some one to design a website for me to do this very same thing.

Posted by John Ford (Security National Properties) over 11 years ago

Teri, searchme.com is AMAZING!  After searching for my name and getting an extremely accurate result, I feel so...relevant.  Cuil.com didn't give me the same results, but I did like the interface a lot.  I'm going to head off and explore these sites in greater depth.  Thanks for sharing these new resources!

John, LOL, very cute....;-) Now go and check out Missy Caulk's post about what SearchMe.com can DO. It's way awesome.! ;-)

Howard, there is a lot you can do with SearchMe.....it's a very cool search engine. Check out Missy's post..;-)

I'm glad to see that Cuil is having success.  I didn't doubt that it would since the master-minds behind Google came up with this one as well.  I'm going to check out SearchMe right now to see what that one is all about.
