Struggling Consumers in Mesa and in Chandler have opportunities for finding affordable groceries!
I recently learned of reduced pricing for feeding a family in Chandler and Mesa, Arizona. No income requirements, no lengthy forms to fill out. Order as many boxes as you want. Wow! Seems too good to be true? Well it is true, and this is where, how, and how much.
Angel Food Ministries provides enough food to feed a family of four for a
week for $30! Additionally, the United Food Bank has a similar program, "Help Yourself," that provides meat, canned goods and a bag of produce for $16! Items vary weekly and are available every Friday on a first come, first served basis. You'll probably have to wait in line, but for $16, you will want to wait in line.
According to the Arizona Republic, a recent Department of Agriculture
survey found that about 50 million people went hungry last year. Nearly
one in four was a child. Some local children come to school famished on
Monday after having nothing to eat at home over the weekend. Food pantries and soup kitchens across the Southeast Valley have been innundated with people who can't afford even a $16 weekly box of food.
How we can help! We can buy a food box online through Angel Food Ministries, for pickup at several Southeast Valley locations, or from 8 a.m. to 2
p.m. Fridays at United Food Bank, 358 East Javelina Avenue, Mesa. Chandler Christian Community Center is collecting canned food, turkeys, hams and baking ingredients for the holidays. 480.963-1423.
I am so proud of those who dig into their almost empty pockets to help others less fortunate. After all, isn't that what America is all about? Helping each other? This is information on just two of many throughout the valley and throughout our country!

How wonderful! I don't know how those groups make donations stretch to cover so many in need, but I love that it's happening. And they even include veggies. Can certainly fit a donation into an extra 30 minutes.
TEri = what a wonderful program oto have in your area. I'm sure there are many who can take advatange of this. Too bad there aren't more of these programs available to those in need. We have a VERY active and large food bank here in North San Diego County.

Hi Teri..Great Idea, I'm sure many will donate online.
I find it interesting that many of my fellow conservatives who eschew government programs and assistance in favor of relying on private donations....have never donated, in-kind or in cash, to their local food bank.
Those are 2 wonderful ways to donate and know the donation is being used as you intended it to be used. Many churches are also stepping up to give locally this year. East Valley Bible Church is concentrating its assistance to families in south Mesa.
Teri - what a great program to highlight! Well, both of them actually. The food bank in Wake Forest is always busy and it's just one lady that coordinates it all by herself. Trust me, she get volunteers like crazy though! My family being some of them.
Sherry, this is a great program for sure. ;-)
Jeff, I just hope those in need discover this great resource. ;-)
Fred, it seems that many do which is such a great way to share the wealth. ;-)
Jim, I think many do....they just don't talk about it.
Deanne, Our church also is involved in contributing toys, food, etc. Always a "good" thing.
Leesa, that is so cool. Great for your children to learn sharing with others. ;-)
As you know we are part of one of the biggest giving communities in the world. I am amazed at how much our church gives back to its members and communities and never expects anything back. I think if more worked like we did, we wouldn't need the government.
Todd, you are right on! Isn't it wonderful? ;-)
Its great to see all the great organizations that are out there helping those that are less fortunate.
Andrew, it is isn't it? It seems that it is particularly true through the holidays. ;-)
