Mill Avenue in Tempe - shopping, great restaurants, and a great place to people watch. As promised, here is the second part of my story and photos that I shared about our trip on the Light Rail on Veteran's Day: One of our stops was to 3rd and Mill Avenue. We hopped off and walked down Mill Avenue looking for a place to stop and eat. While we were in this mode, a man from a building came up to us and asked us what we were looking for and were we hungry. Apparently the place was just opening, and since it was set back from the sidewalk, we hadn't noticed it - and there weren't that many people there. We agreed to give it a try.
Very contemporary, the Regions Bistro and Bar was a delight. Our waiter, Dustin, was part
of the reason, and the food was very good. We were able to view the people walking up and down Mill, and Dustin kept us company while we ate. He plans to be a singer someday, and loves working at this restaurant.
Along our way from Phoenix back to Tempe, and in Tempe on Mill Avenue, I'm sharing a view of Mill Avenue. Note the brick/coblestone walkway. Very quaint with a lingering atmosphere.
One building that I have seen as long as I've lived in the Phoenix area is this one -but I don't know what it is. Anyone know? It's very large, perched on a hill, and has a gated entrance. I've looked all over and can't seem to identify it....maybe someone else can. Thanks to Deanne, this mystery building is the Tovrea Castle.
I'll end this for now, but suffice it to say that it was a spectacular day, and the Light Rail in Phoenix through Tempe and into Mesa is awesome!

Teri
Mill Avenue in Tempe looks like a very nice place to enjoy.
Teri, I didn't realize you guys had light rail also. We have light rail but I have to be honest I have never been on it. Good for you in taking your light rail. It looks like you had a fun day. I wouldn't even know how to go about taking ours. I guess the fact that it is in Houston makes it a hindrance to figure it out. (lol)
Teri -- thanks for taking us along on this wonderful adventure. I think you found a very wonderful place to visit.
Hi Teri..as for the Building...is it your home ? :O))
Tom, it is....another great place to spend a couple of hours. ;-)
Marchel, yep....we have had it for a year. It goes from Mesa through Phoenix and on up to 19th Avenue - if you know where that is. Then back to Mesa. It took me a year, but I wanted to see where it actually went. ;-)
Joan, I hope you enjoyed it. ;-)
Fred, lol.....;-)
What a great way to get around. How far is Mesa from Phoenix?
Terry and Bonnie, not really that far! To catch the Lightrail from where we live though, it's about 20 miles, and then not too far into Tempe and then Phoenix. Probably about five/ten miles.....but it goes all of the way west and north and back. ;-)
Thanks for the post. Congratulations in advance for 300k milestone.
Teri,
Here's another five points toward your 300K mark!! Way to go.

Teri,
Funny you should ask about the Tovrea castle. I have been following articles on it for years (there have been very few). Recently I read it was opening for tours this month. I am planning on taking my granddaughters on the tour and write a blog on it. Here is a link to some info about its past. http://www.phoenix.gov/PARKS/tovhist.html

Gita, thanks for coming by. ;-)
Mike, thanks! ;-)
Deanne, okay that is so cool. All of these years I thought it was something else. I remember it as a kid, and when I saw it again, I had to take a photo. The mystery building is no longer a mystery. Thanks for sharing Deanne, and be sure to share your tour when you go through with your granddaughters. ;-)
Teri,
I had to come back and say CONGRATULATIONS on hitting the rarified atmosphere of 300K!

Mike, lol.....thanks! Took awhile, but I'm here. ;-)
