What I did this summer! Catchy title doncha think? I actually took some time “away” from blogging, commenting, and working in real estate “24-7” and enjoyed some down time and alone time with my husband in Show Low, Arizona, a wonderful little town located in the White Mountains just north and east of Mesa, Arizona 140 miles.
I thought I would share just "some" of the things I chose to do during my down time, along with some photos: I learned to knit, played golf, ate, rested, lounged on the porch and read, read, read.
Some sights of interest along our way to Show Low! We pass through Superior, Miami, and Globe, mining towns in eastern Arizona. Then, as we head north to Show Low, we pass through the Salt River Canyon which is an amazing drive and has spectacularly beautiful scenic views.. As a child, I recall driving that area with a HUGE amount of trepidation....now, the roads are wider, passing lanes, etc.
There are many, many wonderful places to visit in Arizona. I've shared many photographs and tours in the past, and will continue to do so.
As described in Wikepedia: "Show Low is a city in Navajo County, Arizona, United States. It lies on the Mogollon Rim in east central Arizona, at an elevation of 6,400 feet (1,951 m). The city was established in 1870 and incorporated in 1953. According to 2007 Census Bureau estimates, the population was 11,763.[1]
“According to the legend, the city was named after a marathon poker game between C.E. Cooley and Marion Clark. The two men decided there was not enough room for both of them in their settlement. The two men agreed to let a game of cards decide who was to move. According to the tale, Clark said, "If you can show low, you win." Cooley turned up the deuce of clubs (the lowest possible card) and replied, "Show low it is." The stakes were a 100,000 acre (400 km²) ranch. Show Low's main street is named "Deuce of Clubs" in remembrance.
In 2002, a large forest fire, the Rodeo-Chediski fire, threatened the city and forced an evacuation. The city is near extensive forests, and in normal times is a popular recreational area."

Welcome back Teri - I think we left a couple more 104 degree days for you down here. Is the Cooley in the Show Low story related to Eldon Cooley? Eldon was mayor of Mesa back in the 1970's...
Thanks to all of you who noticed I'd been mia for awhile.
I'm really still not back 100% of the time, and can - and DO - work from my mountain retreat. Computer, email, fax, the works. I still accomplish my real estate contracts, speak with clients, and kinda sorta work. ;-)
We'll be back in the valley permanently after October 15th. Meanwhile, I will continue to try and post my blogs from there...but somehow the pull of golf, reading, knitting typically wins me over. ;-)
Jim, as a child, we traveled to the White Mountains many summers..we would rent a home in Snowflake (just north of Show Low) and my dad would come back down to the valley to work. Those were the days where there was no such thing as real air conditioning - only evaporative coolers. Didn't work all that well especially during the monsoon.....
Mary, we have a little place in Show Low for a retreat during the summer. So, pretty much May-October 15 we go up every week.....
Jeff, never left the saddle, but used the side saddle instead. ;-)

So where are all the photos from your time off? Looking forward to seeing your smiling face again.
I'm proud of you taking time off to recharge those batteries. I have been taking a lot more short little vacations this year and I'm loving it. (OK, the Utah one with the car break down was a little stressful, but still worth it)

I wondered where you went, Teri. You just vanished. Every day I'd go to your blog to see what was going on in Mesa, Arizona, and the same blog was there. Happy you have returned!! And it sounds like a much needed break from real estate. The stresses can be unreal at times, can't they?
Teri, I was actually staying at the Roundhouse Resort in Pinetop the week the Rodeo-Chediski fire started. It was a scary time for all the people who lived in the area. My friend in Pinedale evacuated but forunately her home did not burn.
I also am blogging on my Arizona adventures. (There is enough for both of us!!!) Did you see my blog on Forest Houses Resort in Sedona? It is called Stop and Stay Awhile, Forest Houses Resort Sedona. I would love for you to critique it for me. One thing I need to learn is more about adding pictures (I am a pic nut, took 200 in 4 days there). I am reading all the helpful posts and learning how to better blog.

Deanne, wow, I'll bet that was spooky. I didn't have a place up there then, but my mom and sister did. That was a frightening fire. I'll stop by and read your post....there's lots to see in Arizona.
TERI, I missed this when I wrote it but have been wondering where you were. It sounds like you had a wonderful summer. I can always occupy myself reading. I'm halfway through Atlas Shrugged.
My Parents leave my sister's house tomorrow headed for Mesa. They love their 6 months in Arizona and are excited to get there. They had a rotten summer this summer in Colorado. It was cold and rainy; you have to love that global warming.
Marchel, yep, I've been away from the computer - mostly - in the mountains. Came down last week, and leaving tomorrow for CA for a few days. Then home to spend our time in the valley of the sun. It's been beautiful, and I can imagine how excited your parents are to come back here. ;-) I always look forward to May to go up to Show Low. ;-) I'm going to try and be better and get back into the routine of posting...;-)
