Scottsdale, Arizona Police Department Twittering or is it Tweeting? A Wave of the Future?

I thought this was really cool. For those of you who don't tweet yet, or even for those of you who do - what a great idea to be a follower of the police department in your area. Apparently the city of Scottsdale and the Twitterfire department have decided to tweet as well. The idea is that putting out short bursts of information over cell phones, online alerts, instant messaging services as well as Twitter site can be very useful in an emergency.

Anyone can view the Scottsdale Police Department's updates on its Twitter profile. Follow the Scottsdale Fire Department and the Scottsdale City News!

An example was cited in the news article that I read, that Twitter would be "perfect to fill a need illustrated by last year's shootings at Virginia Tech by sending alerts directly to people's cell phones."

I, for one, "follow" several newspaper tweets as well. I don't have them come to my phone or I'd be innundated, but this unique look at tweeting might just be a wave of the future. ;-)

So, stop by and join the Twitter group and find out what it's all about. ;-)
