Tips on Easing Our Anxiety In December!

There are many end-of-year wrap-up duties which collide mightly with what should be pleasurable and personal activities. Soon it feels as if everything will never get done. Anyone ever feel like that? I've put together a rather simple group of tips to help each of us navigate our "personal" obligations:

1.  Aim for "good enough."  STOP striving for perfection. ;-)  You'll only drive yourself - aChristmas treend anyone else in your orbit -- nuts!! You cannot make everything ideal. No tree is perfect; cookies don't have to be made from scratch (NOW isn't THAT a concept). Just DO your best, and then move on!!!!

2.  Prioritize your socializing.  I laugh when I think about this one. With all of the parties and get-togethers going on during the holiday season, don't feel obligated to attend every single function. Decide which events are most important - both professionally and socially - and then skip the nonessential ones.

3.  Divide the Labor.  Separate your to-do list into small, manageable chunks. Instead of exhausting yourself by trying to do everything at once, wrap one or two gifts every evening. Shop online during lunch or sometime during the day for 20 minutes at a time. Write five holiday cards each morning. Just break down tasks however you can so they're not so daunting.

I tend to overdo, but this year, I haven't even decorated yet. It's okay...."good enough" is going to be my goal this month. Too many times, I say yes when I mean no, and bake myself into oblivion. I love all of it, but will divide my tasks into bite-size pieces.

I am a list-maker. I even put on the list things I've done so it feels like I've accomplished something. I find that unless it is on a list, it doesn't get done.  If I have a major project to do, then I allot a certain amount of time each day or week; otherwise, I won't get to it. This time of year, we need to focus on being merry and enjoying the season, our families and our friends. Good enough, prioritizing and dividing your tasks will alleviate a lot of the stress that typically lands on our shoulders this time of year.
